I was at a show this weekend and many of the customers that spent time with me were talking about their safety and defending themselves were Realtors. If you think of dangerous job’s, at first glance, I bet you would not think that a realtor would fall in that category.
Think about it. How many jobs entail meeting regularly with people you don’t know in secluded or private settings?
I did a quick search and it didn’t take long for me to find the article below out of Georgia.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Police have filed charges against a man who allegedly attacked a real estate agent in Gwinnett County on Wednesday. Jeffrey Wayne Shumate, 38, is charged with Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment and Battery.
According to Gwinnett County Police, the real estate agent said she was contacted by Shumate who said he was interested in viewing a home that is for sale. The woman agreed to meet him at the house in the 4200 block of Sugarloaf Parkway. Police said when the Shumate showed up he was wearing women’s clothing and a wig.

The woman unlocked the door and allowed the suspect to view the home alone while she waited outside. As he left the house, he grabbed the woman and began assaulting her, police said.
“Fortunately the victim was able to defend herself and she was able to get away from the suspect,” said Cpl. Michele Pihera. “She began to run near the roadway and that’s when she flagged down a citizen who called 911.” Link to full story
